Beyond Class "Halloween Festival"

At Richard Bland on Halloween the school held a film festival. I personally enjoyed this event and the movies they showed. There were a list full of movie scenes we watched but the two movies I liked the most were It and Dawn of the Dead. It was a horror/drama based on Stephen King's novel about a wisecracking clown called "Pennywise the Dancing Clown". Dawn of the Dead was a horror/sci-fi film made in 2004 and it was directed by Zack Snyder. This motion picture shows a some human survivors living in a Milwaukee, Wisconsin shopping mall surrounded by swarms of blood thirsty zombies. I really liked this movie festival and hope that Richard Bland continues to have activities with their students like this one.

Beyond Class "College Fair"

This past Monday I attended the Richard Bland college fair in the gymnasium. The fair had almost every college you could possibly think of in Virginia or out of state. Colleges from Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Delaware we in attendance.  The selection of colleges to visit and talk to was very broad and full of unique school I have never heard of. No matter your major or education level there was a perfect college for everyone who attended. The colleges I had my eyes on the most were Old Dominion University, Virginia Wesleyan College, Roanoke College, and of cource Virginia Commonwealth University.

RBC Basketball Game

This past weekend I attended the Richard Bland basketball game against Southern Maryland. This was the first basketball game since 1993-1994 season at Richard Bland. The team made a good first impression by destroying the other team. I forgot the score but I know the reached 100 point and defeated the other team by at least 30 points.

Week 10 "Poetry''

The 10th week of English class we read and discussed various of poems. Personally I am not the biggest fan of poems but I still manage to enjoy them. A poem is a piece of writing that partakes of the nature of both speech and song that is nearly always rhythmical, usually metaphorical, and often exhibits such formal elements as meter, rhyme, and stanza structure. In today's culture poems are in everyday life simple rhythm and rhyme are poems. Everyday their are kids across the world at school making beats on the lunch table and rapping with their friends for fun. Rapping is a form of poetry just with music added.

Essay #3 "Anger

Our third essay rough draft is due week 11. This essay is the biggest out of the last two we have written and my personal opinion I believe this is the most interesting and fun to write. The main difference between this essay and the others is on this one we can choose our own topics. The requirements are 1000 words minimum. The essay purpose is to form a coherent essay using examples and research to make a thesis and support it. The topic I chose for the third essay was anger. I chose this topic because everyone deals with anger but in different ways. Some can control and suppress it and others are overwhelmed.

Library Visit

This past Tuesday our entire class went to the library to learn about everything that we have access to as Richard Bland students. First we talked about the research tools available on the website and in the library. On the website we have numerous books that we are able to download or read at our leisure or use for class  research. For fun we have tons of DVD for rental. Checking out a movie is just as easy as blinking. The Richard Bland library has endless educational advantages for their students.

Week 2 Blog

It is week 2 of English class and I am really enjoying it. Unlike other classes I have taken this class is very interactive and has continuous dialogue on the short stories we read and varies topics. I feel that the class interaction helps keep me interested in the tasks or discussions. So far my favorite story was "The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven." The reason why I liked this story so much was because it showed plenty of different situations that we all face in our lives. Such as relationship problems, alcoholism, racial profiling, broken dreams, and anger issues. The main character had problems that everyone can relate to.
